You're right to expect that this will be quite a bit of work, but it's something you can definitely do at home if you have some time and patience. Bottom line, it can get messy and it is time consuming, so there are a few ground rules that we need to set first before you begin this project.

Removing an aftermarket dash trim kit is a bit of work thing that can be done by yourself. To remove dash kit you will need:

  • Hair dryer or heat gun
  • Glue remover
  • Tissues
  • Optional new dash trim kit

First, the big question. Are you absolutely sure its an aftermarket wood dash kit? These instructions only apply to an aftermarket installed wood dash kit. These type kits are overlays, (usually installed at the local car dealerships) and can be removed with some persuasion. However if you have a factory installed dash kit, and by factory I mean installed at the manufacturing plant level (not the dealership) you can not remove the kit without replacing the entire dash part. The wood will not separate from the dash in this instance. If you are sure its an add-on aftermarket dash kit then we are good to go.

Make sure you try to remove aftermarket dash trim kit, which goes over your stock dash consoles. You should know that removing aftermarket dash kit will leave some marks on original dash in most cases, so it is recommended to have replacement dash trim kit in hand. You may get no marks at all but just be noted.

Heat up dash kit piece as much as possible using a hair dryer. The heat will soften glue and now you can take piece off pulling it at the corner. Just do it nice and slowly. We do not recommend you to use any sharp objects as you can easily damage you original dash.

When aftermarket dash trim kit piece taken off you more likely will see some adhesive material left at original dash trim. Use hair dryer again to warm this place again and try take off as much left glue as possible without any solvents. Next apply any glue remover but be careful and reader instruction on how to use it before you do something. Do not use razors or knives or screwdrivers- you will damage your dash with them.

Repeat this procedure piece by piece and as soon as you finished you will decide if you able to install your new kit right now or leave installation for another day.
